Press Statement | 26th March, 2016
Despite repeated appeals and umpteen requests to review the cabinet decision of February 10, 2016 which gave approval to rename Thangting SDO/BDO as Kangvai SDO/BDO and the demand to rename the new subdivision as 'Khousabung SDO/BDO' with its headquarters at Khousabung, the state Government is continuing to turn a deaf ear to our genuine demands.
It is very unfortunate that the state government is paying no heeds to our demands even as series of protest have been launched since Feb 11, 2016.
It is very unfortunate that the state government is paying no heeds to our demands even as series of protest have been launched since Feb 11, 2016.
2. The Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee (KSDDC) also strongly condemns the inhumane, unruly behaviour of the Manipur Police personnel who dispersed democratic protesters at Kwakta on March 22 resulting in the injury of scores of protesters by firing teargas shells and lathi-charging women protesters. We strongly question on whose order the atrocities and brutal act on protesters was perpetrated by the police. We also take strong exception to the State governments' failure so far to take fitting action against those police personnel who terrorised democratic protesters.
As our rights have been continually challenged and suppressed through highhandedness on protesters, the KSDDC in its meeting held on 24th March, 2016 (Thursday) resolved to impose indefinite Churachandpur District and Tiddim Road bandh from midnight of March 27, 2016. The State government should be held solely responsible for any eventuality arising out of the situation.
Essential services will be exempted from the purview of the bandh. We appeal to all concerned organisations and individuals to extend maximum cooperation to our quest for justice.
