Public Appeal
Lamka, August 3, 2016
The relentless struggle of the indegenous tribal people in present Manipur for the safeguarding and protection of their land, rights and identity which was triggered by the passing of three anti-tribal bills, viz.., the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015: the Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms ( Seventh Amendment ) Bill, 2015 : and the Manipur Shops & Establishments ( Second Amendment ) Bill, 2015 will cross one year on August 31, 2016.
With the Manipur Government in Imphal as well as the Union Government in New Delhi refusing to take proactive measures to adress the grivances of the tribals and still choosing to turn a blind eye on the issues grappling the tribal territories in Manipur, our fight for an acceptable and sustainable solution continues.
A join meeting of the Joint Action Committee Against Anti-Tribal Bills (JAC) and the Outer Manipur Tribals' Forum ( OMTF ), the apex tribal body of the Hmar Inpui, Thadou Innpi,United Naga Council and Zomi Council on July 18, 2016 has resolved that if the Union government fails to address the issue on or before the August 11,2016, the JAC and OMTF will joinly resort to democratic means of agitations. On this note, every tribal individual and organisations as well as educational institutions and public offices are requested to refrain from making any preparations for the upcoming 70th Indian Independence day celebrations unless an amicable proposal for an acceptable and sustainable solution is received by the given date.
The same meeting also resolved to observe August 31 as Tribal Unity Day; the day will be observed across all the tribal territories of Manipur as a tribute to our fallen Martyrs.
The Jac would like to humbly request all individuals and organisations in Lamka, the epicentre of the Tribal Movement, not to organise any event that may coincide or collode with the JAC's proposed observance of Tribal Unity Day.
